For mooty. <3

The whole song this time buddy.

This song is so sad yet so beautiful. Andi… why do you do this to me?

This is the first Death Cab for Cutie song I’ve ever heard. I love it a lot. Other than it being so heart felt and true, at the same time it is so analytical and scientific; it reminds me almost of a biologist dissecting a frog or something. Sorting out the different parts of it and seriously figuring out something on your own - but in this case he’s analyzing himself.

I think you really know a lot about yourself from learning about others and seeing the patterns in people everywhere and you find out who you are in relation to them. In the song, he can really think about the relationship when she’s not around. He can really feel her absence to understand what it was like when she was present.

When I first heard the part about the eye, and how his brain turns her around I was shocked that anyone could make that caliber of an analogy to science. It works in two ways, since the lens of a person’s eye is convex, he does literally see her inverted as the brain transfers the image to right side up (Or what we think right side up is… I mean if that’s how it’s first perceived then isn’t that what it really is?), but also, more obviously, this is how he feels about her. She may not be perfect, but he see’s her that way. He looks at her in a different light than any other person. He looks through all the bad things, whether he should or not, and sees a beautiful person. Pretty much what I’m saying is that in both senses, the brain always “knows better”.
